Red Admiral
STRENGTH ABV 4.2% BOTTLE SIZE: 500ml SERVE: Cool INGREDIENTS Maris Otter pale malt/crystal malt/Cascade, Fuggle and First Gold hops. A copper-coloured bitter, bottled, like the others featured here, by allowing cask beer to drop bright, transferring it to a new cask and kräusening before filling. TASTING NOTES A dark mid brown coloured beer with a discreet toasted malt sweetish aroma. There is a hint of hop in the flavour but the malt dominates giving the taste a warming nutty flavour. CHEF'S RECOMMENDATION A malty beer that makes a great winter warmer! Serve with a thick stew and dumplings or casserole.
Branthill Best
STRENGTH ABV 3.8% BOTTLE SIZE: 500ml SERVE: Cool INGREDIENTS Maris Otter pale malt/amber malt/pale chocolate malt/torrefied wheat/Phoenix, Cascade and First Gold hops. A beer created in conjunction with Branthill Farm at Wells-next-the-Sea, using the farm's Maris Otter barley. TASTING NOTES A red amber brew with a malty, lightly chocolaty, very nutty aroma. The taste and finish are also nutty and malty with reasonable bitterness and hints of roast.
IPA
A traditional I.P.A. re-created by Mark after researching beer recipes from the 19th Century
STRENGTH ABV 5.2% BOTTLE SIZE: 500ml SERVE: Cool INGREDIENTS Maris Otter pale malt/crystal malt/Target and First Gold hops. TASTING NOTES A golden orange coloured ale with a sharp, citrus fruit, hop aroma. The taste is dry, hoppy and packed with zesty citrus fruit flavours with an underlying buttery malt taste and a dry finish. CHEF'S RECOMMENDATION As its brewed using a traditional recipe, lets stick with the idea of the Raj. With the dry, zesty fruit aroma and flavour, IPA would cut right through the heavy, thick sauces of a traditional Indian curry, and not just a Chicken Tikka Masala Balti! The yoghurty creaminess of a Korma, or maybe even the fiery heat of a Madras.
LJB
STRENGTH ABV 4% BOTTLE SIZE: 500ml SERVE: Cool INGREDIENTS Maris Otter pale malt/crystal malt/chocolate malt/ Challenger, Fuggle and Target hops. LJB stands for Little John Bristow - brewer Mark Bristow's young son (the beer celebrated his birth in 2002). TASTING NOTES Named after our youngest son John. A copper brown coloured bitter. A light, citrusy hop aroma with a malty background. A true bitter flavour, citrusy hops to begin with then a smooth caramel maltiness in the finish. CHEF'S RECOMMENDATION A classic English bitter. Without adoubt this beer has to be served with steak and ale pie! The pie and pint tradition hasn't died - Buy it online or visit our pub to try it!
